About Us

BEGIN ANEW was formed from the vision of one man, as an individual that grew up in a single parent family unit Mr. Kane saw first hand the struggles and sacrifices his mother endured. Working two and sometimes three jobs as well as long hours to keep a roof over his and his brother's head along with food on the table and family activities whenever possible his mother, like many moms and dads in this situation, wasn't always around to guide her kids. He also realized that she, just like every other single mom and dad in that situation, would do what she had to in order to provide for her kids and much respect must be given to those parents. There's no question in Mr. Kane's mind that she did a great job and is a wonderful and loving mom.

As a result of this and other contributing factors Mr. Kane made some bad decisions in his later teenage years and adulthood. He realized that there are many at risk kids and families in the same situation. Unfortunately at the time he lacked the vision and motivation to try and do anything about it. Mr. Kane did however realize as he re-entered school to work toward a degree that assistance for single parents is scarce at best unless they are at poverty level but the assistance usually doesn't always allow for a way out, just a way to maintain the 'status quo'.

Fast forward many years and Mr. Kane was working for a small but profitable vocational school as an Operations/Sales Manager and as the market took a downward spiral he suggested the school go after Federal and State grants. After much frustration with the lack of assistance he was getting from the owner of the school he again became inspired by his vision of what could be done and rekindled a long forgotten dream to help single moms and dads make a better life for themselves and in the process strengthen the family unit.

After several weeks of preliminary research Mr. Kane created the rough drafts to what are now the Mission Statement, Purpose and Vision Statements and reserved the name BEGIN ANEW. He then approached several people that he felt would be interested in the project, whose opinions and perspectives he respected that may have something that they could bring to the table. As a result the first official Board meeting was held at an Ihop restaurant on Central Avenue in Phoenix and the original members of the Board were Geoffrey Kabat, John Kane, Angela Kirk, Tahnee Kirk, Josh Luithle and Jeannette Pena. Since that first meeting there have been some changes and six months later we have Michael Garcia, Geoffrey Kabat, John Kane, Tahnee Kirk, Josh Luithle and Dr. David Maselli on the Board of Directors.

From those humble beginnings BEGIN ANEW is being developed as a resource for families and communities in need. From the initial interview and assessment the Mission of BEGIN ANEW is clear; help the family to become self sufficient within the community. This is done by aiding in the learning of new career skills, career placement, parenting classes, life skills classes, and family events hosted by BEGIN ANEW to help build or rebuild and strengthen the family unit. In short, being a one stop resource for all or most of the needs the family faces throughout the process.

Aid is given in any form deemed necessary to help foster that end. Through dignity and respect families will be educated, counseled and guided in a manner that best suits their needs to enable them to become self sufficient members of the community in which they live. All available grants will be used in whatever means necessary to guarantee the highest rate of success based on the individual family assessment. A minimum of 80% of all funds generated through this organization will be used for this purpose.

It is the belief of BEGIN ANEW that if we can help single moms or dads increase their earning potential through education and employment resources BEGIN ANEW can, theoretically, eliminate the need for him or her to work two or three jobs. This will obviously open up new opportunities never before attainable. But more importantly it will enable that single mom or single dad to be home with their kids at night, participating in their lives, and hopefully keeping them off the streets where kids tend to learn the wrong coping skills. It is the intention of BEGIN ANEW to contribute, in no small way, to the rebuilding of our communities and America, one family at a time.
