In 2017, Begin Anew's hope is that every student in our programs will have someone walking alongside them, encouraging and praying for them as they reach their goals. Due to the growth God has blessed us with over the past year, we are in need of 75 more Encouragers and Prayer Partners.

Could God be calling you to step out in faith and be a Prayer Partner or Encourager to bring His hope to a person struggling to overcome the obstacles caused by poverty?

Why Volunteer: Begin Anew students do not have the support systems, relationships, and role models needed to reach their goals. A prayer partner or encourager is matched to every student to pray, listen and encourage them along their journey to reach their goals and create a brighter future. Our students are enrolled in classes to obtain High School Diploma, computer and job skills, or speak the English, needed to succeed and earn a living wage.

Initially when I signed up to help with Begin Anew I assumed that I’d be helping a lady who had dropped out of high school or wasn’t able to finish for whatever reason and needed encouragement to continue her education, studying for her high school diploma. While this is true to some extent, I was in for a big surprise when I was the one leaving our sessions feeling encouraged and inspired!!...She’s my reminder that with God all things are possible.
— Deana Loveland, Nashville Encourager

Who can Volunteer: We are looking for grounded Christian men and women that would like to give back and support their community. No mentoring experience is necessary. We simply ask for a desire to care for a student and encourage them along the process of reaching their goals.

It is not on you to make life better for your student. You are there to encourage and to listen. You don’t have to fix their life and come in and make everything better. Your job is to encourage, to listen, and to help them in their spiritual growth.
— Madison Encourager

What does it look like to be a Prayer Partner: As a prayer partner, you will be matched up with one or more students and commit to praying for and communicating with them for a six month period. This includes a weekly message via texting, voicemail, email or card with a note reminding the student you have been praying for them and also a Bible verse you feel would encourage them that week. You will be providing the much needed support to a student waiting to be paired up with an encourager. Though you will not physically be there walking beside that student each week, your prayers are powerful and we believe can have a huge impact on the lives of these men and women.

What does it look like to be an Encourager: As an encourager, you will be matched up with one student and commit to meeting with them for one hour weekly for a one year period. You will provide a listening, supportive relationship in which a student can discuss his/her personal goals and life situation.
