As the calendar turns to November, I am reminded of many things: leaves falling, a chill in the air, clocks turning back and of course our dedicated Begin Anew students hard at work, learning.
Some are learning algebra, some sentence structure, some computer skills, and some a whole new language and culture. I am reminded of the hard work and dedication it takes to learn something new. It can be a struggle, often involving sacrifice and certainly determination.
Our students come to us to learn new skills that empower them to better face life’s challenges; they come to set good examples for their children, with a hope that their children will have a better life.
Soon we will all be celebrating Thanksgiving, a day to stop and reflect upon the many things we are thankful. At Begin Anew we have so much to be thankful for: a mission that is compelling, dedicated volunteers and staff, strong community and church partners, and students who remind us all of the importance of learning. Yet, what I am most thankful for is the opportunity to share with our students the love of Jesus Christ because it is with that knowledge that true empowerment takes place.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
