LaTasha Reese enrolled with Begin Anew in March of this year. A single mother of three, her main goal is to be a role model for her kids. Although she talks to them often about the importance of education, she knows it’s just as important to show them. She had enrolled in other programs but always seemed to allow life to get in the way before finishing. A friend in the program encouraged her to visit a class at Begin Anew. LaTasha discovered right away that Begin Anew was what she needed: the support of tutors in a one-on-one or small group setting, classes in the evening, the option of childcare if her youngest son didn’t want to stay with his older siblings, and Bible Study.
LaTasha attends class on Mondays with energy and a sense of discovery. She is ready to conquer the math concept that escaped her the week before, and she’s always excited about Bible Study. Excited! She is no stranger to Christianity and had even been baptized at an early age. But it has always been life’s curve balls that demand so much of her time; time that has kept her away from growing spiritually. LaTasha welcomes the hour on Monday nights to read and discuss the teachings in the Bible. What she appreciates even more is the version used in class—if only she had a Bible at home she could understand. One evening after class, LaTasha was given a New King James Bible. She’s now armed with the best weapon to fight her battles. Months later, in May of 2016, LaTasha was baptized at Fairfield Baptist Church. She says she knew it wasn’t required, but longed to be re-cleansed as a statement of her love for Jesus Christ.
LaTasha is still on the journey to reaching her goal with Begin Anew. She has taken the Official Practice Test for HiSET (High School Equivalency) while conquering adversity as it comes. Armed with the reassurance of who God is in her life, she starts everyday knowing that she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength.
