Each time I attend a Begin Anew graduation I enjoy a renewed purpose and commitment to the work of this great ministry. It is so rewarding to see the students, so excited and nervous, realizing that all of the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice they have made has finally paid off. What a sense of pride to see them walk across the stage and complete that rite of passage, knowing that they can and did reach this goal and are now graduates of the program!
This June it seemed especially sweet to see students who have struggled for so long finally pass the High School Equivalency exam. One student shared that she had been working toward this dream for nearly ten years!
Now that they have reached this accomplishment, I can’t help but to pause and think about what new dreams and goals God will place in their minds and hearts as they move forward with their lives.
As Becky mentioned in her graduation speech, 1 Corinthians 2:9 “no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”
I also stop and think about that student who is still dreaming of a high school diploma and wondering if they have the courage and determination to begin something new and challenging for themselves. God has such a wonderful plan for each of them and we at Begin Anew are privileged to be a part of it!
Graduation also brings to mind the dedication of our incredible volunteers; many who have been involved with Begin Anew since our very beginnings 20 years ago. What a far reaching vison they had and one that I know will continue to grow as more and more people become aware of this ministry.
I hope graduation is a time of recommitment for all of us, to celebrate our accomplishments and to dream of our future with a God that loves each and every one of us beyond our imagination.
